FEFLOW is designed for Microsoft Windows environments as well as for Linux operating systems. It can be used both on single user workstations and in networks in client/server mode. The following configurations are recommended as a minimum:

Notes for Windows Vista:
As the use of Windows Vista becomes more common, there is now growing evidence of a consistent performance lack when running transient FEFLOW’s models on this platform. Please see the more detailed description in case you want to use FEFLOW on Windows Vista.
Since one of the latest updates (November 2007) of Windows Vista, the operating system seems to treat each remote desktop session as a terminal server session, even on single user Windows Vista. Therefore it is not possible any more to use a FEFLOW single seat license for a remote desktop session on Windows Vista.

Dongles:
- Hardlock parallel port: Mostly used for older licenses and by users who have been working with FEFLOW for a long time.
- Hardlock USB Key: This hardware key had been distributed for some years as the standard.
- HASP HL – USB: All new licenses since the beginning of 2007 have been delivered with this hardware key. It is now the standard key for DHI-WASY software protection.
